It’s a bit late to update the first week’s work, I am still struggling with the pace of MA academic learning and my new life in London.
I feel a huge difference when I learn my BA and my current MA learning journey. I feel that the project compelled me to concentrate on environment building without thinking too much reason why I do that.
It’s my first time approaching Unity, and I feel it’s different from my normal 3D workflow, like C4D. I tend to know the basics first, then try to use some packages to save time, so that I know my priority and focus on the important parts.
#1 CVR Project
My aim is to raise people’s awareness towards marine environmental pollution. So I emphasize on the evolution and mutation of Jellyfish inspired by the Jellyfish Crisis and future marine environment construction.
I don’t want to consider the feasibility of the plan in my first two weeks, I think it may limit my thinking.

Before having a tutorial with Ana, I think it may be divided into two parts, naturally evolve and mutation. I really love the mutation version, it’s so wacky and weird. But I do feel modelling is a problem here for me.
After the tutorial, Ana helped me to organise the thinking. I decide to have them at the same time, including previous normal jellyfish, some with evolution and some with mutation. I will model and test them in this second week to find out the feasibility.

In terms of the marine environment, I will test the cave underwater and the Chinese landscape Painting version, the sample comparison may help me to decide which one is better. Personally, I prefer the Chinese traditional landscape style, I think the combination of traditional painting style and wacky jellyfish may create a fantasy sense. However, it’s more complex for me technically.
Also, I need to learn more about interaction in VR environments. My current plan is when we touch jellyfish it may glow and navigate us into the next step.
Overall, I will model these jellyfish and create the environment sample to find out which one will be my final plan.
#2 DIE Project
To be honest, I haven’t thought much about this unit. I am still learning new terms about stories and finding out how I apply them in my own story.
My current narrative is based on the view of a synthetic eye. The set up is a consumerism society with overwhelming advertisements and the main character got a synthetic functional eye by accident and doesn’t know the function which can help him look under the surface at first. Then he may know it for some reason.
The player may start with a dark environment then they may find out they can blink the eye. The world is all black and white except ads.
The whole story is not clear right out. I am still thinking about the character flaw and arc, which is also confused me a lot.
I hope I can write an outline this week and learn how to draw a VR storyboard in a VR headset.
Finally, I feel that I may encounter many difficulties in my future learning. The period for these two units is not that long, but I tend to know the procedure of making a VR project.
